Rungwell at Home: labellers move to working from home

In nine days, 1,104 labellers in Nairobi and Manila moved to working from home. April pay is guaranteed at each labeller’s average.

Both delivery centres closed to labellers on 27 March. By this morning, 1,104 of our 1,162 labellers were working from home on Rungwell laptops with mobile data bundles paid by Rungwell. The remaining 58, most of whom do not have a safe or quiet place to work at home, are being paid while we find a solution with each of them.

For April, every labeller will be paid at least their average monthly earnings for January and February, whatever the volume of work clients send. Several clients have paused projects; others have asked us to do more.

Work under client confidentiality agreements that requires a restricted room has been paused. Clients have been told that it will resume only when the centres reopen.

“The labellers did this,” said Nadine Arsenault. “They carried laptops home on matatus and jeepneys, set up in bedrooms and kitchens and on rooftops, and kept their quality scores where they were. We will keep Rungwell at Home going for as long as it is needed, and probably longer.”
