When the Nairobi centre’s 61st cohort began training on 27 October, the number of people who have worked at Rungwell since the first cohort in March 2016 passed four thousand.
We do not know which of the 52 new labellers was the four-thousandth, and we have decided not to find out. They began the same morning, in the same training room, and they are all in this together.
“Four thousand is a number for a report,” said Esther Ndirangu, Country Director, Kenya. “What I see is the training room on a Monday morning: fifty people who did not know each other, a little nervous, a lot of new shoes. By Friday they are a cohort.”
