Focus Assurance: questions and answers

Focus Assurance is part of Rungwell Tasks on Rungwell at Home laptops. It helps you notice when your attention drifts, suggests breaks at the right moment, and gives our clients confidence that work done at home meets the same standard as work done in our centres. That confidence is the reason many clients allow remote work at all.

How does it work?

While you are working on a task, Focus Assurance uses the laptop’s camera to estimate whether you are looking at and attending to the task. It works this out on the laptop, many times a minute, and turns it into a focus score from 0 to 100 for each session.

Does Rungwell watch me through the camera?

No. Nobody watches a live picture. The camera image is processed on your laptop, and Rungwell receives your focus score and a list of events, such as a long look away from the screen.

What happens if my score is low?

Nothing bad. If your score drops, the app will suggest a break. Items you complete while your score is low are checked a second time before they go to the client, just as an extra quality step. Your team lead may talk to you about patterns over several weeks, to help you find the hours that suit you best.

Someone walked past behind me. Is that a problem?

No. Focus Assurance notes when a second face appears, because some clients require that their data is seen only by the labeller. Your team lead reviews these events and almost always closes them with no action.

Can I switch it off?

Focus Assurance is on during tasks for every Rungwell at Home project. It is off during breaks, wellbeing time and training, and never runs outside the Rungwell Tasks app.

Focus scores and events are kept for 13 months. When an event is reviewed, up to two still images taken at the time of the event are kept with it for 30 days and then deleted. Items completed while a session’s focus score is below 70 are held for a second review and credited when released. See the worker privacy notice, section 6.
