The two floors
Level 3 is the original floor: 320 workstations in four bays, the canteen, the counsellors’ rooms and the cohort room, where every new intake spends its first three weeks. Level 4, opened in May 2022, holds another 320 workstations, the quality team, a training room for 48, a quiet room, a nursing room and the two restricted rooms.
The restricted rooms are where we do work that a client’s confidentiality agreement requires us to keep apart from the open floor. They have their own access control and no windows onto the floor. Phones go into lockers at the door. A counsellor’s office sits between the two rooms, and labellers in them take their wellbeing time on the hour whatever the queue says. Work in the restricted rooms is always done on site and never through Rungwell at Home.
The quality floor is where reviewers check a sample of every batch before it goes to a client, where calibration rounds are run on Thursday mornings, and where the week’s scores go up on the whiteboard by project. The jacaranda in the car park flowers in October and November, and most of the floor would rather you did not ask them to close the blinds.
Who works here
Most of our Nairobi labellers grew up within a matatu ride of the centre, in Kibera, Kawangware, Kangemi, Mathare and Dagoretti. We recruit through community youth programs, polytechnics and churches in those neighbourhoods, and run open assessment days at the centre four times a year. Applicants sit a reading and attention test; there are no interviews in English for jobs that do not need it, and no application fee, ever.
New labellers train for three weeks on full pay in a cohort of 40 to 60. The 61st cohort began in October 2025. About one in five of the centre’s current team leads and trainers started in the first ten cohorts.

Rungwell at Home in Kenya
556 labellers attached to the Nairobi centre work from home, most of them in Nairobi, Kiambu and Machakos counties, and some as far away as Nakuru. They are employed on the same terms as labellers on site, work the same shifts, and come to the centre for their cohort training and for a calibration day every quarter. Rungwell supplies the laptop and pays for the data. Remote work uses Focus Assurance.

Getting here
Kilele Court is on Mtondoo Close, off Ngong Road in Kilimani. Matatus on the Ngong Road routes stop at the stage at the end of the close. The centre is not open to the public and we do not offer tours during shifts; prospective clients visit by arrangement with the Toronto client team, and applicants are invited to assessment days.
